The Best Beer & Chocolate Tour with The Brussels Journey // The Krystal Diaries

After filling us up with chocolates, it was off to start trying beers. Now I am not a true beer fan. I don’t know much about beers other than what I think tastes good and what doesn’t. However, I knew I had to try all the beers offered on the tour and this part of the tour was something I knew my brother would really enjoy. Also, don’t be fooled, it may be a beer tasting tour but each beer we tried, our glasses were filled. No little sips here and there on this tour. If you really aren’t a fan of beer the guides totally understand and will give you glasses of wine instead. My mother drank wine the first couple of times before finally trying the beers and realizing she liked them! The first stop was Benelux a fancier looking bar but with laid-back vibes. Here we got to sit down for a little bit which was great after all the walking we did during the chocolate half of the tour. Also, we had a few more chocolates that were saved for us to try while we sipped on our first couple of beers. Here was where I had my favorite beer of the night! The Dark Sister beer from The Brussels Project Brewery is a dark IPA, I normally don’t like IPAs at all, and it was described having a half IPA and half dark stout type flavor. I tend to like dark oatmeal stout beers so that may be why this one was my fave. I highly suggest trying it! I don’t think it’s sold here in the States but if someone knows of a place that sells this one please let me know! Next up was the Toone Royal Theatre a bar that has lots of history and has been in the same family for generations. This place is tucked away down an alley and is known for their puppet shows. Here were got to try a couple more practically full glasses of beers and have a few snacks. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I started eating! The meats and cheeses were delicious! Last stop was Au Bon Vieux Temps. This is another old bar with lots of history tucked away into an alley. We learned some more history here and few little fun facts about the bar that I won’t give away! If you go here, ask about the paint color. Here was where we sat, made ourselves comfy and chatted the night away with everyone. Trying all the different beers, Lambics, IPAs, Doubles, Triples, and Trappists was a wonderful experience. Learning about the history of the bars, the Belgian monks who started making beers, and when water was scarce or contaminated people turned to beer to stay hydrated was great. Who knew beer had so much history? The Brussels Journey tour was without a doubt my favorite part about traveling to Brussels. It was a great way to try local chocolates, beer and learn a bit about their history in such a fun setting. Our tour guides were wonderful and so much fun to hang out with! Nothing beats good treats and drinks while hanging out with some awesome people. If you’re traveling to Brussels I absolutely recommend The Brussels Journey’s Beer and Chocolate tour My best advice: Be adventurous – try the things you think you won’t like. You may be surprised. Even if you don’t like it you can say you tried. Be in the moment – I know we all like to share Insta Stories, Snaps, Tweets in the moment but don’t. There is so much to see, hear, and experience you might miss something if you’re too busy on your phone. Snap the pictures but post them later.   Make friends – even if you’ll never see them again. The tour was a great way to meet people from all over. Wear comfy shoes – seriously walking all over on cobblestone streets is not the time to wear heels or wedges, especially after the beer drinking. Ask for suggestions – the tour guides have so many suggestions for great places to eat! The Best Beer & Chocolate Tour with The Brussels Journey // The Krystal Diaries
