Fall is upon us, and for many of us, that means savoring all things pumpkin spice. I have a deep love for pumpkin spice lattes, but I don’t love what’s in the popular versions from coffee shops. Did you know that a grande pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks contains a whopping 50 grams of sugar? That’s more than double the recommended daily limit for women! Beyond the sugar, there are often other questionable ingredients like artificial flavors and preservatives. This year, I wanted to enjoy my pumpkin spice coffee without the additives, so I created my own homemade dairy-free pumpkin spice coffee creamer that lets you indulge while sticking to a non-toxic lifestyle. It’s so creamy, delicious, tastes like real pumpkin spice plus has added health benefits.
Why a Non-Toxic Lifestyle Is the Ultimate Act of Self-Care
Living a non-toxic lifestyle (I prefer low-toxic since a 100% non-toxic lifestyle is pretty impossible to achieve. You’ll see me referring to it as non-toxic but know I really mean low-toxic) means actively reducing exposure to harmful chemicals and ingredients found in everyday products, including food. This approach is particularly beneficial for moms and those trying to conceive, as it can improve overall health, hormonal balance, and energy levels. Processed foods, including many coffee creamers, often contain additives like hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, and preservatives, which can negatively impact health.
Adopting a toxin-free lifestyle goes hand-in-hand with clean eating, where the focus is on consuming whole, minimally processed foods. When you reduce exposure to synthetic ingredients and opt for natural, nutrient-dense options, you support your body’s natural detoxification processes and promote long-term well-being.
Homemade Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer: The Better-for-You Choice
The Hidden Ingredients Lurking in Store-Bought Creamers
If you’ve ever taken a closer look at the ingredient list on a store-bought coffee creamer, you might be surprised (and a little horrified) by what’s inside. Many contain hydrogenated oils, which are trans fats linked to inflammation, as well as artificial flavors, thickening gums which can cause stomach troubles, and preservatives that can be hard on the digestive system. These ingredients don’t align with a clean eating approach and may introduce unnecessary toxins into your diet.
That’s where my homemade coffee creamer shines. Making your own allows you to use real food ingredients that you can feel good about. The recipe I’m sharing today uses organic coconut cream (a healthy fat), which adds a rich texture without the need for gums or stabilizers. Plus, homemade versions let you control the sweetness and avoid added sugars or artificial sweeteners, making it ideal for a toxin-free lifestyle.
Master the Art of Reading Food Labels to Choose the Best Ingredients for Your Pumpkin Spice Creamer
Reading food labels is such an important skill when pursuing a toxin-free lifestyle. It’s not just about avoiding certain ingredients, it’s about knowing exactly what you’re putting into your body. Many packaged foods contain hidden sugars, synthetic additives, and artificial flavors that you might not notice at first glance. When you know how to read a food label, you can better avoid these harmful ingredients and choose organic and whole foods that support your health.
When selecting ingredients for my dairy-free pumpkin spice coffee creamer, I focused on organic options and whole-food ingredients. Using products like Let’s Do Organic Heavy Coconut Cream ensures there are no added gums or stabilizers, and choosing organic pumpkin puree (not the canned pumpkin pie mix) means avoiding any hidden additives or sugars. These small choices can make a big difference in reducing your overall toxin exposure.
