Seven Self-Care Ideas For Your Mental Health

Last updated on January 2nd, 2023 at 01:43 pm

We all need some self-care right now. Our mental health is extremely important. You’re not alone if 2020 has completely thrown you for a loop. Can we just all agree this year has been a dumpster fire? Self-care is important for mental health. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or involve spending money either. Here are seven easy self-care ideas to prioritize your mental health.

Slow down. Stay in bed a little later if you can. Make that cup of coffee or tea and take the time to savor it before getting your day started.

Take a mental health day. Even if you can’t take an entire day, take a few minutes to decompress. Step outside and breath in the fresh air. Read a few pages of a book. Watch a movie. Listen to music that puts you in a good mood.

Sign off social media. Seriously Instagram will still be there when you get back. Turn off those posts notifications. Try completely deleting apps from your phone for a day. Endlessly scrolling has never made anyone feel better.

Get moving. Get your body moving and those endorphins flowing. With so many at free home available workouts now, there is something for everyone. Yoga, Pilates, Spin Classes, Strength, Barre, Dance. Even if you have only 10 minutes to spare that’s ok! Or keep it simple and go for a walk outside.

Meditate. You don’t need to be an expert to do this. Just 3 minutes can really help you decompress. Two of my favorite apps are Calm and Shine. Both have free meditations available.

Talk to a loved one. Reach out to someone who loves you no matter what. Check in on that person you’ve been meaning to but keep forgetting. Talk, text, video. Whatever you’re comfortable with just reach out.

Step away from the news. Seriously just stop binging the news.
